Collective Scroll #3: Nostalgia
Algorithms and Synthetic Memories
03 November 2026 from 19:00 – 21:00

About the event
At panke.gallery, the live format Collective Scroll will explore how nostalgia takes shape online: From AI-generated pasts and pre-Covid light to Frutiger Aero and Dreamcore, we will scroll through images, aesthetics and online communities that revisit, reconstruct and often fabricate the past itself.
A growing wave of AI-generated images recreates scenes from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s: Christmas gatherings, childhood bedrooms, families watching VHS tapes in their living rooms, old computer desks and familiar streets at dusk. Drawing on recognizable visual conventions, these images produce versions of the past that feel strangely familiar, even when the scenes themselves never existed.
As these images circulate through social media, they raise questions about the relationship between memory, imagination and visual evidence. What makes a fabricated image feel like a genuine memory? What gets idealised or left out? And how can these imagined pasts shape our understanding of the present?

About the Format
Collective Scroll is a live format developed by Mudmap Magazine. Each edition explores a different corner of the internet by scrolling down a particular rabbit hole. Bringing the feed onto a shared screen, we turn a usually solitary experience into a collective space for looking, discussing and making connections together.
