About the event

The event mashes up Mexican artist Fabiola Larios’s Meme Piñata with a session of the Meme Reading Club, a format created by Damjanski.

For Meme Piñata, participants submit memes that are printed onto and stuffed inside a pink heart-shaped piñata. Part sculpture, part meme dump, part time capsule, it becomes a collective archive of internet humour and cultural commentary.

The activation starts with a brief presentation by Fabiola Larios about her artistic practice, including her ongoing research into internet culture, surveillance, self-representation, and the aesthetics of digital life. After the presentation, participants will break the piñata and gather in a circle to read, share and discuss the memes together.

Somewhere between a group chat, a book club, and a birthday party, the activation invites participants to think about what memes reveal about our shared online consciousness.

Artist

Fabiola Larios (b. 1986) is a Mexican interdisciplinary artist based in Miami, currently in residence at Bakehouse Art Complex. Her work explores the aesthetics and politics of surveillance, self-representation, and obsolescence in the digital age. Through installations that fuse e-waste, piñatas. glitter, electronics, and bedazzled surveillance cameras. Her projects often move between humor and critique, using the visual language of memes, Web 1.0 nostalgia, catholic omnipresence, and pop culture to reflect on contemporary forms of visibility, control, and collective digital life.
