an exhibition of two works as one installation for 4 days - by Alexej Paryla | Dalia Mikonytė& Adomas Žudys
About the exhibition
City Studies by Dalia Mikonytė and Adomas Žudys shows a photogrammetry based project about the cities of Europe. Photogrammetry is a specific form of photography and 3D graphics which connects geographical focus and different multisensorial modalities. Merging moving images and synthetic sounds they create virtual and surreal getaways and peregrinations in overlapping cityscapes. The artists see their process of observing the architecture, sculpture and nature of the city as an act of transforming performance.
Level by Alexej Paryla shows the partial view of a virtual space from a first-person perspective. It is an open world game resembling environments in common computer games. Using simple controls enables the visitor to move about freely. Further rules or temporal limits do not exist, time in game equals life time.
Dalia Mikonytė and Adomas Žudys is an artist duo; Dalia Mikonyte is a photographer and researcher, member of artists group Coolturistes, The Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association (LeTMeKoo) and Lithuanian Photographers Association. Adomas Zudys mostly works with 3D graphics and design, video mapping, street art projects and stencils. We are both owners of an official artist status of the Republic of Lithuania. Together we work with photography, video, 3D and text medias. Artistic practice that we are developing focuses on old and well known art forms mixed together with new technology and science. Our work addresses various questions and variations of perception and recognition. Themes centered around the relationship between materiality, technology and identity. Subjects range between intimate space and time, personal experiences, identity and its representation, signs, virtual and actual reality. Interests and inspirations balance between history, contemporary art and future scenarios, among theory, practice and sentiment.
The city, street culture is strongly linked to entire work of us. Adomas has been working with graffiti, street art projects, stencils since adolescence. His works live in the walls of the cities of Lithuania, Germany, Italy and Malaysia. Building on Vilnius Constitucion Avenue keeps his self-portrait, pedestrian boulevard of Šiauliai - the pixel sunset and the study of a square, personalized references and links are also sprayed in the cities of Berlin, Carrara, Massa, Gaeta, Penang.
Dalia finds particular interest and importance in integration, identification and contextualization. Earlier photographic projects of her, for example Palanga's project "Analogophilia” (2015) - is a very personal engagement, arrival and survival in a resort town during the off-season. The project "Hands and Feet" (2016) is also a search for space and identity between Vilnius and Berlin.
For two years we are working as an artist duo investigating new specific computer programs, technological news, virtual and augmented reality, possibilities of virtual modelling, communication and interaction between real and virtual objects. We combine analogue techniques with digital ones, as if symbolically connecting the past with the future, play with different medias and look for unexpected connections. We believe that art should critique and reflect on itself, although not only concepts, but also aesthetics are very important to us. At present, we are mostly working with photogrammetry and scanography, experimenting with procedural sculptural design and how shapes change in time, 3D environments in virtual space and conversion of virtual shapes into real physical sculptures.

You will see the partial view of a virtual space from a first-person perspective. It is an open world game resembling environments in common computer games. At the beginning of Your visit in that world You will likely find yourself at the bottom of a run dry canal. Your inital position is defined by the point where a player left the installation before. The banks are steep and you may see the building structures of a a city above. Across those canals several bridges connect the different quarters of the city scape. Using simple controls You may move about freely. Further rules or temporal limits do not exist, time in game equals life time.
Alexej Paryla 2018
